The opportunity

The Graduate Web Analyst will sit within Friday Media Group’s Traffic & Insights team. This is a talented team of digital marketing specialists (SEO, PPC, B2C & Analytics), who are committed to delivering growth in traffic and conversion KPIs across Friday Media Group websites.

You will be primarily responsible for delivery high quality data analysis, from which you must generate actionable insight to help the business grow website traffic and conversions. Key responsibilities

What will you be working on?

The Friday-Ad was the first weekly publication in the UK, back in the 70’s, which enabled people to buy and sell items with each other locally. To this day, we still print over 350,000 copies of this paper every single Friday and thousands call us to place their adverts for cars, beds & everything inbetween. The Friday – Ad also entertains our readers with local news, reviews, stories and opinions, and it will be your job to make sure these are alluring and engaging for our readers.

You will also be responsible for our equine publication Horsemart, designed for horse lovers and Boat Trader magazine for boating and sailing enthusiasts. Both magazines are leading in their marketplace and can be found in popular stores such as WHSmith. It isn’t necessary for the candidate to come from either an equine or boating background, as long as you can adapt easily to the readers and have an intuitive approach that’s all that’s desired.

What will some of your day to day responsibilities be?

  • Ensure that each week there is original and engaging content in our weekly paper & magazines
  • Ensuring that the magazines and weekly paper looks smart and is enjoyable to read
  • Work closely with the sales reps and business services to create features which are selling opportunities, eg ‘Our favourite tradesmen in the South East’. Create the designs, ensure sales are selling the spots and coordinate them being printed.
  • Lead Generation – Identifying pools of potential customers for the sales team to help gain more sales, eg tradesmen in certain parts of the UK
  • Report each month on the success of your initiatives. Eg ‘Last month I added a ‘summer-time special’ feature and it generated £10,000 in new business’
  • Identifying locals partners to help promote our publications

Key responsibilities

The Digital Product Lead is responsible for a set area of the business and all of the products that fall within that. In this case, we’re looking for someone to work on our Recruitment and Classifieds businesses. You would be joining us at an exciting time, working alongside other members of the product team to research and develop our next generation of digital products, reporting directly to the R&D director.

We want our products to deliver indispensable value to our customers and users, and to be a pleasure to use. As Digital Product Lead, you’ll work alongside our Indian development house, and Barcelona design team to conceive and develop innovative products and features that help us achieve this. You’ll focus on delivering the best possible website experience for our users across devices, with intuitive and useful features.

Attention to detail and an eye for quality, along with the ability to grasp technical capabilities and translate them into customer benefits is crucial. You will be the expert in the platform, products, audience and buyers.

This will include (amongst other things and in collaboration with the Group business teams):

  • Researching the market where necessary to solve problems for our customers and enhance their experience with our brands
  • Prioritising product development opportunities and requirements
  • Overseeing development of products and updates (working with our Project Management team)
  • Working with the Product Marketing team to plan and implement a marketing strategy, taking the product to the point where it can be successfully integrated with the business teams

In more detail, you’ll be…

  • Observing and analysing current products – are customers getting value?Are they hitting obstacles? Why are they not renewing or upgrading?
  • Researching the scope of new opportunities: How big is the market? Who are the competition and what are they doing? How much money could the Group stand to make?
  • Researching the new product/feature in greater depth: What are the customer needs? What’s it worth to a customer to have those needs solved?
  • Planning the development with the Project Management team – what resource is needed, what are the costs, what are the timescales? From these questions, prioritising developments.
  • Planning/speccing out the product itself: user experience planning, mockups/wireframes, design briefs.
  • Creating a process for fulfilment of the product (and planning resource), including customer service needs and processes.
  • Producing a timetable for taking the product to market
  • Thoroughly testing the product: is it intuitive, does it make life easy for the user? Does it solve the problem we set out to solve?
  • Collecting feedback and analysing data after launch to inform later iterations of the product. This might include, for example, accompaniments with salespeople, listening to sales calls etc.

Necessary Skills & Desired Characteristics

  • Commercial mind & ability to relate to the customer
  • Element of analytical skill – ability to take insights from data
  • Ability to craft effective copy
  • Attention to detail & eye for design/usability
  • Natural inquisitiveness/curiosity, particularly when it comes to new technologies or solutions
  • Creativity and an open mind to test new concepts and ideas

We’re looking for the right person, not the right CV, so whilst a background in product might help, a good mix of the above characteristics and a drive to succeed are more important.

Job description: 



We are looking for a Visual & interaction designer to start working right away with the UX design team. Must have a high level of English!

As a Visual & Interaction Designer, you will:

  • Display advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustration, InDesign) and Sketch as well basic notion of HTML and CSS. A degree in Visual Communication or Interactive Design will be a plus.
  • Be passionate about the web and want to make it better, with an extraordinary attention to detail
  • Work on the creation of new brands (from logo design, creation of brand manuals, website mockups, interaction prototypes and creation of pattern library and style guides for developers.)
  • Create great designs involving complex UX systems always focusing on the end user.
  • Be involved in the visual creation of marketing campaigns and editorial design
  • Work closely with our Product and Marketing teams
  • Work on several projects at a time
