Senior DBA and Data Engineer

Your role as Senior DBA and Data Engineer will see you get involved with many exciting projects across the group, working across a range of current software and integrating with new technologies. The Friday Media Group, utilises a number of databases and search technologies. Primarily MariaDB however we also have investments in MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Solr and Elasticsearch.

The Senior DBA and Data Engineer will work closely with the DevOPS/IT and development teams to ensure that database servers are highly available, monitored, optimised, updated and secured.  One of the exciting parts of your role will be to bring all of our data from different sources together, by building data pipelines and datastores that allow the businesses to use for reporting and use for business intelligence.  You will also be responsible for data integrity, making sure that the appropriate backups are in place and routinely verified.  You will play a key part in helping to develop and maintain best practices around database design, documentation, standards and database deployments.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 4 years experience in a similar role

Strong command of MySQL and SQL toolsets

Python coding experience for data analysis and collection

Experience with ETL processing

Good working Knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards

Understanding of relational data modelling

Excellent eye for detail

Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge

Good written and verbal communications

MySQL - MariaDB 10.4

Good communication skills

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Ensure high availability of databases

Ensure that all automated and scheduled tasks complete successfully

Implement, document and monitor appropriate backup and restore verification procedures

Proactively monitor database and Solr servers for faults and decreases in performance, highlighting query or database inefficiencies to development and operations teams as necessary

Ensure that data integrity and security is maintained at all times

Produce and maintain documentation on databases and disaster recovery procedures

Administer changes to production, staging and development database servers and databases as required

Implement or advise on data archive scripts as required in line with group data policy

Build data warehouses/data marts to be used for reporting and business intelligence
